Lions and leopards climb trees to protect themselves from tse-tse flies which usually fly at the ground level. Escaping up to the tree branches also provides shadow and a moderate pleasant breeze. Ideal spot for the big cats are the sycamore fig trees and the acacias since they can provide shelter even during the rainy season.
