Angkor

Angkor. Prasat Suor Prat.

At the center of Anghkor Thom is an open space called the royal square, with a pair of broad terraces on one side (Elephant and Leper King), and twelve identical towers on the other. Suor Prat means rope dancers -- based on the suggestion that tighrope walkers originally cavorted from one to the other, but there is no historical evidence for this. The Chinese chronciler Zhou Daguan wrote that in the case of a civil dispute, contending parties were sequestered in the towers until one got sick, thus exonerating the other.
